The exhibition hall "Around the Demoiselles d'Avignon" juxtaposes Picasso's "Demoiselles d'Avignon" with American People Series #20: Die (1967), a work by the black American female artist Faith Ringgold.
This painting depicts a riot scene on the street. In the 1960s, Ringgold came to MoMA almost every day to watch and study Picasso's works. "To some extent, this painting is a response to Picasso," Lowry said, "but obviously we created something more different.
The audience's thoughts on this exhibition hall are divided into two levels, and they will feel uneasy.
This "dialogue" makes people understand that Ringgold makes Picasso "more modern" and more meaningful today."
