Suicide Squad: Destroy the Justice League is about to enter its fourth season, and players who remain are relieved to see that the latest character to join the multiverse melee is Deathstroke, and he does look pretty cool. Whether he'll be a solo appearance or will arrive with the online service game's promised offline mode remains to be seen.

The news was announced last Friday via a brief social media post that teased the December 10th launch date for Season 4 and showed Deathstroke's art. Deathstroke will be the fourth post-launch addition to join the Suicide Squad roster since the game launched in January. Unlike some of the previous additions, though, at least for now, players are really looking forward to the announcement of the sword-wielding assassin.

"This Deathstroke design is awesome!" one player wrote on the Reddit thread. "The heavy battle damage on the suit and armor adds so much depth to this deadly super soldier."

"Of all the characters they could have included, like the Condiment King, a knot that can climb anything, Kite Girl, Harley Quinn's former college roommate, the decaying corpse of Dr. Penelope Young, why did they choose a popular character like Deathstroke?" joked another player.

Suicide Squad's endgame content has been evolving since the main story ended, leaving players frustrated and disappointed. A seasonal storytelling structure set up events that seemed like they would eventually bring the Justice League back into the game, and in doing so we welcomed the Joker, Ms. Freeze (a gender-swapped take on the icy villain), and Deadshot's daughter. Despite some major updates, new loot, and unique moves and combat abilities for the expanding roster of characters, the lack of exciting missions or interesting boss battles made for a rather bumpy post-launch roadmap.

The Suicide Squad, a third-person shooter that always requires an internet connection, still seems destined for the graveyard of online service games. Rocksteady has promised to deliver set content in the first year after the game's launch, but with the development team facing layoffs and prototyping new single-player projects, it's unclear whether the game has a future after that.

One way that Suicide Squad could keep its existing player base is to launch an offline mode. Rocksteady previously said it planned to add this mode in an update in 2024, but that was before the game's bumpy launch. When the media asked a spokesperson for Warner Bros. recently whether the offline mode was still scheduled to be launched this year, the other party did not respond to a request for comment. Players are hopeful that despite the lack of news about this feature for months, the fact that it is still promised on the Suicide Squad website means that it will eventually come.
