A new rumor has emerged about the PS6 Portable, adding more details. It is said that the handheld will be compatible with PS5 games, but the experience will be scaled down.

PS6 Portable can run PS5 games, but with lower resolution and frame rate

News of the PS6 Portable has surfaced on the web, with celebrity uncle KeplerL2 revealing that the upcoming handheld is not as powerful as the PS5, and is powered by a “15W 3nm SoC”.

KeplerL2 took to the NeoGaf forums to further clarify, saying that the PS6 Portable “can definitely run PS5 games, it just doesn't have the same resolution and frame rate as the PS5, mainly because of the lower memory bandwidth”.

PS6 Portable may fall between Xbox Series S and PS5 performance

According to KeplerL2, the PS6 Portable's performance is “roughly halfway between the Xbox Series S and the PS5”. However, he also noted that performance is difficult to determine as the device “utilizes an unreleased GPU architecture”.

KeplerL2 also mentioned that the regular PS6's SoC is different from the portable version, stating that the PS6's SoC is “specifically designed to operate at very low voltages.” In addition, the PS6 Portable has “far fewer than 40” on-chip computing units (CUs).

Readers should note that this information does not come from official Sony sources, so take it with a grain of salt.
